Introduction
Most of the natural science education instruments displayed in the science hall of the Cultural Bureau of Penghu County are retired from the Taiwan Science Education Hall. In Year 80 of the R.O.C. (1991), they were lent to Penghu National Scenic Spot Administration Office and returned in Year 85 of the R.O.C. (1996). Because they were out of date and not suitable for natural science education, the hall was then changed into a theme exhibition hall. In recent years, the exhibitions of Kebo in Penghu, A Hundred Relics from the Imperial Palace, cultural relics of ancient sunken ships in the sea around Penghu, whale and local rocks and geology exhibitions were held here. An observatory was set
up on the third floor to accommodate astronomical observation activities.
The educational bureau of government of Penghu County has borrowed part of the second floor of the science hall of the cultural bureau of the county and set up the Center of the Friends of Natural Studies there, providing many basic facilities, specimens and information on natural sciences. It is an important site of research and promotion of natural science education in the county. It also cooperates with the national natural science museum to offer exhibitions and provide information pertinent to outdoor educational programs on local environment. |
