Zhau ErDai, originally named Ton He, surnamed ZhongPing. He was born in Zhen Ziang, ZiangSu Province in 1916. He was fond of painting since he was a child. After graduated from PeiPing Uni., he served as the county magistrate of SanUan and LinSen County , FuJian Province. He came to Taiwan in 1949 and built a farm of his own and enjoyed the rural life. He served again in the government in 1957, but resolved to retire in 1969 when still holding a post as president of provincial industry of agriculture. Since then he had immersed himself in artistic creation for nearly half a century.
His art works include water painting, chirography, sketch, color painting, seal carving, sculpture, ceramics, etching, literature, and photography. He was particularly gifted in ceramics and water painting.
His works are rich with individual personality and express the moods of Zen, simplicity, tranquility, stillness, and indifference. Except for individual exhibitions in native land, his works were also exhibited in Italy , Spain , USA , Australia , Holland , Paris , Japan , Hong Kong , etc. In 1965, his water painting "A Bunch of Joy" was collected by Roman National Contemporary Art Museum .
In 1985, he was invited by Northern American Affairs Negotiation Committee to hold a circuit exhibition around 70 cities in America .
In 1988, ErDai Art Center was built in PengHu , and he stayed at his hermitage in PengHu after his 'Taipei Farewell, 11 ErDai Review Exhibition'.
In 1990, " ErDai Art Center " was opened.
His also published books such as Dream Traces , Dai's Paintings and Words , Life Sketch , Passion Hid beneath Strong Wind . |
